the inspiration behind the lockdown landscapes
The 2020 lockdowns offered my creative practice a chance to loosen up. I was feeling what that weird period of time was like; loved the spaciousness, but realised its strangeness all the more sharply. I spent a lot of time running with Ruby across my local fields and down footpaths new to us. I brought my experience of landscape and open space back to the studio where this body of work crept into my awareness and out onto paper and board, having to work only with the materials and tools that where available at hand.

They are not OF anything in particular or referencing a real place/landscape. It’s more my feeling of THAT spacious time, weird time, when I found myself patient, lost, with direction, without direction and sometimes all of these feelings in the same day.

Theme is landscape and lines - but less about the outdoor landscape and more about what it was like then, our lives in those lockdowns...spacious, empty, with distant views to an unknown future, full of light and warmth and a very quiet space. Lots of silence, lots of air, and very few people to be seen.
